Off to the Races!
It’s time to break out your favorite floppy hat and sharpest sport coat because we’re off to the races! Saturday, November 2nd brings with it an exciting fall tradition—the Montpelier Hunt Horse Races. The annual horse race is held in the beautiful yards of Montpelier, the lifelong home of James and Dolley Madison. Montpelier was purchased in 1901 by William Dupont and remained in the DuPont family until the passing of Marion Dupont Scott in 1983. Marion DuPont Scott is credited with introducing the equestrian lifestyle to Montpelier, which has become a large part of the property’s history. She transformed Montpelier into a renowned Thoroughbred breeding and racing ground and founded the widely respected Montpelier Races in 1929. Whether you attend to feast your eyes on the horses or just to tailgate, this family-friendly event is a great way to spend a Saturday.

If you’ve never been to a horse race before, you may be struggling with what to wear. A horse race is the perfect opportunity to comb through your closet and dress to the nines. For men, try donning a sport coat, long pants with a collared shirt. Aim for a look that is both fashionable and functional, as the weather is growing chillier. For women, consider wearing a longer skirt or dress pants with a patterned blouse. You will definitely want to wear flat shoes, as there will be a lot of standing and spectating. If you’re feeling extra daring, wear a unique hat, and enter the hat contest! Whatever you choose to wear, the Montpelier Races are sure to promise a good time to all of those who go.
